CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Eighteen detainees and a prison guard at the Bulacan Provincial Jail here were isolated after being tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Retired Col. Marcos Rivero, the provincial warden, told RONDA BALITA Online in an interview on Thursday that the persons deprived of liberty with ages ranging from 50 to 60 manifested fever and cough and were placed on quarantine in one of the cells inside the provincial jail.
The prison guard, he added, has undergone home quarantine in Pandi town.
“Ang instruction ni Governor Daniel Fernando ay panatilihin ang pag-inom ng vitamins, panatilihin ang pagiging malinis ng isolation facility (The instruction of Governor Daniel Fernando is to take vitamins and maintain the cleanliness of the isolation facility,” Rivero said.
The swab test of the inmates was conducted last Friday by the Provincial Covid-19 Command Center under the Provincial Health Office.
Rivero said the 18 inmates were suspected of being infected by a fellow detainee who died of tuberculosis and pneumonia and was confirmed Covid-19 positive.
“Kaya agad na pinag-utos ni Gov. Fernando na agad ipa-swab test ang lahat ng mga inmates na may nararamdamang lagnat at ubo (That is why Governor Fernando immediately ordered to swab test all inmates who have fever and cough), ” Rivero said.
“Right now, the condition of all the inmates is currently being monitored and when a detainee becomes ill, he is immediately isolated to prevent transmission of the disease,” he added.
Rivero thanked the provincial government for providing support to the inmates of the provincial jail.
He had banned visits to the jail since March to prevent the spread of the virus.
