20 striking workers of NutriAsia arrested in violent clash


CAMP GEN. ALEJO S. SANTOS, City of Malolos, Bulacan — Twenty protesters in NutriAsia labor strike were arrested by Marilao and Meycauayan Police in a violent clash along MIS road, Gate 3 Barangay Pantoc, Meycauayan City, Bulacan on Monday afternoon.

P/Sr. Supt. Chito G. Bersaluna, acting Bulacan Provincial Director identified the arrested protesters as Alon Ang, Hiyas Saturay, John Bonifacio, Psalty Caluza, Eric Cantoc, Einstein Receded, Mark Ezequiel Gralada Quinto, Nikkie John Abilar, Danny Boy Cea, Mark Ponce , Marylle Jons Alcantara, Jeovellyn Bornales, Daisy Jane Happa, Reynaldo Aboy, Sidney Naharo, Jerald De Leon Verano, Jaime Castro, Imelda Rey Miraposte, Aileen Raganit, and Edwin Barana.

Based on the report of Marilao and Meycauayan police the protesters composed of different militant groups League of Filipino Students (LFS), Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY), Anak Pawis, and members of NutriAsia Laborers Union, together with other media representatives, addressing and sharing their grievances.

“A violent attack was instigated by the protesters by throwing stones and pieces of lumbers against the guards that prompted them to defend themselves by blocking the attack, which resulted in the arrest of 20 protesters, while 12 security guards sustained injuries,” Bersaluna said.

“No injuries were reported on the protesters’ side. Father Rolly De Leon, the priest who officiated the Holy Eucharist prior the clash and his companion were secured by the police,” Bersaluna added.

Confiscated after the clashed was cal. 22 revolver loaded with 2 live ammunition and 4 pieces sachets of suspected “shabu” from certain Edwin Barana, 39-year old, single, a resident of Brgy. Langka, Meycauayan City.

The arrested suspects and the recovered evidence were brought to Meycauayan Police Station for proper disposition. Appropriate criminal complaints are now being prepared against the suspects.
