CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Eight Chinese nationals were taken into custody on Thursday afternoon (May 16) by operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Bulacan for manufacturing fake cigarettes and human trafficking in Marilao town.
Col. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, said the NBI received a report that Chinese nationals were employing factory workers to manufacture fake cigarettes at a warehouse inside Green Miles Compound in Barangay Patubig, Marilao town.
A joint operation by the NBI, Bulacan Provincial Special Operations Group (PSOG) and Marilao police conducted a raid at the said warehouse that led to the apprehensions of eight unidentified Chinese nationals and rescued 87 Filipino workers.
“The raiding team also discovered inside the warehouse were finished and unfinished cigarette products and machines being used in the manufacturing/processing of cigarettes,” Bersaluna added.
The eight Chinese nationals were brought to the custody of the NBI agents for investigations and filing of appropriate cases while the 87 other factory workers were brought under the care of the Department of Social welfare and Development for processing and medical checkup.
