CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Bulacan local execs and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials led the blessing and inauguration of the totally replaced Gen. Alejo Santos Bridge connecting the towns of Baliwag and Bustos on Tuesday.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando together with Bustos Mayor Francis Albert Juan and Baliwag Mayor Ferdie Estrella spearheaded the ribbon cutting to formally open the Gen. Alejo S. Santos Bridge that will benefit commuters and motorists traveling from Bustos to Baliwag in commemoration of Gen. Alejo S. Santos’ 36th death anniversary.
DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said that the newly reconstructed bridge can now accommodate a maximum of 20-ton load limit of trucks, including all types of vehicles.
“The old bridge allowed only 5 tons of limited access to vehicles l. But now, our engineers have adjusted sidewalk width from 1.10 to 1.50 meters, installed streetlights to ensure the safety of motorists passing through the bridge especially at night time,” Tolentino said.
The 284.80 lineal meter bridge cost PhP 283 Million for the construction from the DPWH and the project was initiated after the said structure was identified as among the weak bridges that need replacement with inevitable wear and tear.
Likewise, it is expected to generate additional employment and improved tourism for the province.
The project was implemented by the Regional Office headed by Construction Chief, Florita dela Cruz and Project Engineer Rebistiano Hizon.
Also present in the said inauguration are ABC President Martin S.J. Angeles, Bustos Vice Mayor Arnel F. Mendoza, Tina Pancho sister of Congressman Gavini Pancho, and DPWH Bulacan District Engineer Henry Alcantara and ADE Aristotle Ramos. (RONDA BALITA Online)
