CITY OF MALOLOS, BULACAN — Local folks who were hungry to get a win got what they’re hoping for on Wednesday night as their very own Bulacan Kuyas scored a fitting payback by whipping the Parañaque Patriots, 77-58, in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here.
JR Taganas and Jason Melano proved they’re efficient two-way players as they both dished double-double performance for the Mighty Sports-backed Kuyas, who now improved their win-loss record to 3-1.
Taganas, the undersized center of the Kuyas, finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Melano, an ex-pro picked up by the squad during the offseason, tallied 12 points and 10 boards.
“Shaq (Taganas) and Jason are two good two-way players and they’ve proven that they could be an asset to this team,” said Bulacan coach Britt Reroma.
It was the second straight win for Bulacan, which is now starting to develop a winning run, and Reroma believes his squad is now gradually establishing its chemistry.
“Slowly but surely, we’re getting better,” he added. “The 3-1 record doesn’t mean anything sa dami ng malalakas na team dito at maraming games pang lalaruin.”
The loss was the second straight for the Patriots, who now fell to 2-2 and produced its least output this season at 58. The F2 Logistics-supported team got 22 points from Jemal Vizcarra, but no other Parañaque player was able to finish in double figures.
