CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Pork products infected by African Swine Fever (ASF) may not affect human health but news gathering for its presence in this province may be dangerous to mediamen covering it.
This, after two cameramen of GMA news, a news correspondent of DwIZ and correspondent of the tabloid Remate were intimidated by a barangay councilor of Bulihan in Plaridel town before noon Tuesday for covering the culling of swines suspected afflicted with ASF virus in the said barangay
Jose Erwin Bunag and Isagani Cruz, both cameramen of GMA News in Bulacan, told PNA that they went to the Barangal Hall of Bulihan, Plaridel to inquire about the culling of swines suspected to be infected by ASF in the village and happened to chance the presence of the municipal veterinarian who declined to be interviewed.
“We immediately proceeded at the said barangay to gather news about dead swine infected allegedly by ASF, ” Bunag said.
As the tv crew was about to leave the place, a barangay official, whom Bunag identified as Kagawad Arnel Gonzales, allegedly badmouthed the mediamen and demanded that the video footages be deleted, which Louie Angeles of DwIZ and Ricardo Mirasol of Remate have confirmed.
The barangay official claimed that the mediamen did not ask permission to take video footages and warned that cases will be filed against them, Bunag said and added that Gonzalez even tried to take away the camera of the mediamen.
Meanwhile, Col. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, also said that the GMA cameramen have filed a blotter report on the incident at the Plaridel police station. (RONDA Balita Online News)
