Cop wounded as drug suspect hostages own family in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — A police officer was wounded during a hostage drama when a drug suspect opened fired during pursuit operation wherein he barricaded himself inside his house and held his wife and two children on Friday afternoon.

Based on the report by P/Lt. Col. Orlando Castil Jr., CSJDM police chief to Bulacan Police director Col. Chito Bersaluna, identified the wounded cop as Patrolman Rusco Virnar Alcaraz Madla, assigned at the City of San Jose Del Monte Police Station while the suspect was identified as Julito Fernandez alias “Bunsoy,” 33 years old, and presently residing in RC-11 Area G, Brgy. Citrus, CSJDM, and wanted for murder and attempted homicide and involved in gun-running and an illegal drug personality.

Suspect Fernandez peacefully surrendered to Bersaluna after almost two-hour negotiation and the suspect’s family were safely rescued by the police.

Investigation showed that a buy-bust operation occurred in Barangay Citrus in the city of SJDM where the suspect noticed that he was dealing with police operatives and immediately fled and was monitored went back to his house but he was immediately followed by the lawmen and upon reaching the house, the suspect fired successive shots to approaching cops which resulted to an armed encounter.

Madla sustained gunshot wound at his left thigh and was immediately brought to the District Hospital in CSJDM for medical treatment.

The suspect also threw a hand grenade to the police personnel but did not explode wherein he barricaded himself inside the house and held his family for less than two hours after he voluntarily surrendered to Bersaluna.

Recovered from the crime scene were a caliber .45 pistol and several ammunitions, 1 piece of MK2 corroded without a fuse and 1 piece of MK2 without safety lever.

“Cases for frustrated murder, Attempted Multiple Murder, Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives were being readied against the suspect for filing in court,” Castil said.

The arrested suspect is presently detained at SJDM City police station custodial facility. (RONDA Balita Online News)
