CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Public Works and Highways Region III (DPWH-3) participated in this year’s conduct of the Brigada Eskwela held on several schools across the region.
The annual Brigada Eskwela spearheaded by the Department of Education is conducted before the opening of the academic year to prepare classrooms and other school facilities for the students and teachers’ utilization.
In a media forum held on Thursday (May 23) at the Aquino Hall of DepEd Regional Office 3 at the Government Center in Maimpis, CSF, DPWH-3 District Engineer Janet Nero disclosed that the regional office, under the direct instruction of Secretary Mark Villar, deployed personnel to implement maintenance and rehabilitation activities.
“We repainted pedestrian lanes, particularly those in front of schools, as well as the classrooms and we also initiated vegetation inside and outside the school premises,” the DPWH official said.
On orders of DPWH-3 Regional Director Roseller Tolentino, the region’s engineers conducted an inspection of the school buildings in areas that were affected by the recent earthquakes that struck the region to check on their structural integrity, Nero added.
Nero also gave an update in the ongoing construction of school buildings in Bulacan and other provinces in Central Luzon that is aimed at making classrooms conducive to the learning of students and work of teachers.
Prior to today’s media forum, Assistant Regional Director Loreta Malaluan was interviewed by the media from Central Luzon on the preparations being undertaken by the DPWH Regional Office with regard to school buildings and the readiness of the national roads when influx of students and teachers begins when schools open in June 3.
