MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Marlon Sabucido Casquejo as the new commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Duterte signed his appointment papers on June 18 to fill up the post vacated by Christian Robert S. Lim whose seven-year term as Comelec commissioner ended on Feb. 2, 2018.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Section, Article VII of the 1987 Constitution and existing laws, you are hereby appointed ad interim commissioner, Commissioner on Elections, for a term expiring on 02 February 2025, vice Christian Robert S. Lim,” Casquejo’s appointment, which was released by Malacanang on Wednesday, stated.
Casquejo will join incumbent Comelec commissioners Sheriff Abas, Rowena Guanzon, Luie Tito Guia and Al Parreno.
In November 2017, Duterte appointed Abas as Comelec chairperson, replacing resigned chairman Andres Bautista.
With Casquejo’s appointment, the President has one more Comelec commissioner to appoint to take the place of Arthur Lim whose term also ended on February 2, 2018.
