PRESIDENT Rodrigo R. Duterte said he broke down in tears after former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said Duterte should go and see a psychiatrist.
According to a report by Radyo Inquirer on Friday, in a speech in front of the 44th Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Manila Hotel last week, Duterte said he felt people are ganging up on him.
“Ang presidente nila sinabi na, (their president said) ‘Duterte you need to see a psychiatrist… Kapatid pala ng (apparently he’s the brother of the) King of Jordan. Napaiyak tuloy ako kasi inaapi-api ako ng mga tao (I couldn’t help but cry because people are ganging up on me),” Duterte said in his speech.
In March 2018, the UNCHR ex-commissioner and Jordanian Prince made headlines when he said of the Philippine strongman, “He needs to submit himself to some sort of psychiatric examination. This kind of comment is unacceptable. These attacks cannot go unanswered; the UN human rights council must take a position.”
This statement was made after Duterte threatened to slap UN special rapporteur Agnes Callamard if she steps foot in the Philippines to investigate the allegations of extrajudicial killings and other human rights violations involving Duterte’s controversial and bloody war of drugs.
Just last month, Duterte made another comment about Zeid’s statement that “he was almost tempted to lash out at [Zeid] for recommending that he undergo a psychiatric test.”
