CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave the Department of Labor and Employment a “surprise birthday gift” on the agency’s 84th-anniversary celebration at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here Friday afternoon.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III was set to introduce the president as the event’s guest of honor and speaker but asked the Chief Executive’s indulgence to first listen to a special song number by Jonalyn Viray.
As Viray started singing “Ikaw”, a favorite of Mr. Duterte, the singer approached the President, handed him another microphone as if asking him for a duet which Duterte gamely obliged to the delight of the roaring crowd.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the President did not only rendered a special gift to the agency ‘s founding anniversary celebration but also made in historic mark to the province’s capitol gymnasium.
“This is why our President is very much loved by the people. He does not only lead us well but also entertains our people. Napaka simpleng tao talaga ng ating pangulo. He made his stay at the Bulacan capitol more special and meaningful. This is a good day for Bulakenyos,” Alvarado said.
Later in his message, Duterte once again reiterated that he will stake everything to crush the dope menace and corruption in the country.
He said that he is saddened by stories of children of Overseas Filipino Workers who got victimized by the evils of dangerous drugs.
“I don’t want OFWs finding their children hooked on drugs. This menace is producing a generation of slaves with bizarre and violent behavior. Walang akong pakialam kung sabihin nila akong killer. Do not destroy my country, I will kill you There must be retribution, an eye for an eye,” the president said.
Duterte also announced that he will sack an entire commission next week for graft.
He also said that peace should reign especially in Mindanao.
“Kapag hindi nagkaroon ng kapayapaan papasok at papasok na naman ang ISIS. And I wont allow that, ” he added. (RondaBalita Online News)
