From Albay to Bicol: Volcanoes change MPBL team name

A UNITED front in the entire province forced the Volcanoes, an expansion squad seeing action in next season’s MPBL tournament, to change its team’s name while in midst of building up its franchise.
Head coach Monel Kallos wrote to FOX Sports Philippines that the team had already informed the MPBL Commissioner’s Office regarding the change of name.

“From Albay, we’re now going to carry the name Bicol Volcanoes,” added Kallos. “Gusto na talaga even ng mga officials na Bicol na ang dalhin.”

Officials of the province, from Governor Alfranchis Bichara, Guinobatan Mayor Ann Gemma Ongjoco, board member Rey Bragais, Mayor Noel Rosal and Councilor Vince Baltazar of Albay, and Mayor Herbie Aguas of Sto. Domingo had thrown in their full support to the team.

With officials of the province joining forces, the team owned by Gil Orense decided to use the name Bicol in place of Albay.
