Mobile devices na may network lock, ipagbabawal

ISANG panukala ang isinusulong ni Senador Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian na magbabawal sa mga mobile telecommunications companies ng paglalagay ng network lock sa mga mobile devices na ibinebenta nila sa merkado.

Ang Senate Bill No. 1643 o “Network Freedom Act”, iginiit ng senador na ang network locking ay nagiging hadlang sa mabilis na pagpapalit ng network ng mga subscriber o naglilimita lamang sa network na kanyang binilhan ng mobile device.

Ipinaliwanag ni Gatchalian na kadalasang nakasaad sa mobile communications service contract sa pagitan ng service provider at mobile user ang lock-in provision.

“Therefore, a Globe-locked phone cannot be used with a Smart SIM, and vice versa,” saad ng batang senador.

“Every mobile user should have the right to switch to other service providers that offer better deals.

Unfortunately, the locking of devices prejudices this right. The Network Freedom Act will ensure that the consumer’s right to choose the best service available on the market is protected,” giit pa nito.
