NBI seizes P5M worth of hot lumber in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has confiscated approximately P5 million worth of illegally cut lumbers in a warehouse in Barangay Tiaong, Guiguinto town on Monday.

Czar Nuqui, Chief of the Environmental Crime NBI-Bulacan, said the raid was made after a search warrant was issued after they received information that the contrabands are stocked and being processed in a warehouse in Barangay Tiaong in the said town.

“The contrabands were discovered to have come from the Angat Watershed and Benguet province,” Nuqui added

It was found out that the warehouse has no necessary permits to operate and is owned by a certain Ricky Yu.

Fernando Pitargue, supervising Science Research Specialist from the Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) of the Department of Science and Technology, identified the hot lumber were from the tree species of narra, mayapis, white lauan, sindalo, iktikan kanili, makaasim group, and all belong to Philippine Mahogany Group.

The owner of the hardware will face a violation of PD 705 or the Revised Forestry Code. (RONDA Balita Online News)
