PNP ready for MECQ; public urged to stay at home — Gamboa

PHILIPPINE National Police Chief, PGen Archie Gamboa has directed all police commanders and units to immediately establish additional community checkpoints for the immediate implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in the National Capital Region, provinces of Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, and Bulacan.

“Our police units in the field are ready to set up more checkpoints in barangays and main thoroughfares as the NCR, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan reverted to MECQ from August 4 to 18 heeding the call of our medical frontliners,” he said.

During the 15-day MECQ, he assured that police frontliners will do everything by means of stricter checkpoints operations to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19.

“We appeal to the public in areas under MECQ to stay at home. Ito ay bilang tulong na ninyo sa ating mga medical frontliner, police frontliner, at mga tanod at kawani ng barangay na halos limang buwan nang nakikipagbuno sa pandemya,” he reiterated.

Thru the Joint Task Force COVID Shield under the command of PLtGen Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, enough number of the police force will be deployed to man checkpoints to enforce MECQ guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

Under the MECQ guidelines, only one person will be authorized to go out to buy the basic needs of a household to avoid non-essential travels. Quarantine pass will be mandatory for Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) and to be presented at the checkpoints.

Gamboa urged the public to fully cooperate with the authorities for the sake of public health. “We are asking for your full cooperation, to help save lives and to ease the burden of your health and police frontliners,” he said. (RONDA BALITA Online)
