Bro. Martin Francisco, the chairperson of the Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Society Inc., said Corpus was an active forest ranger who was usually included in the blocking force of the DENR at the DRT-Gen. Tinio watershed area whenever the Bulacan special task force on illegal logging conducts operations inside the Angat watershed.
Don Guevarra, information officer of the DENR-Central Luzon, said the victim was part of the DENR’s anti-illegal logging operations in Nueva Ecija on October 21-22 this year before he was shot and killed three days later.
With the arrest of the three suspects in the killing of corpus, Francisco said that they are also hopeful that the Nueva Ecija police force may sooner or later also arrest the suspects in the killing of Gaudencio Arana a volunteer Bantay Gubat at the Pantabangan watershed who was also shot dead on September 12 by suspected illegal loggers.
