CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Senator Richard Gordon, together with Bulacan officials headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando will lead thousands of Bulakenyos in the commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence at the historic Barasoain Church in this city on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 8 am.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan”.
The program will start with a flag raising ceremony followed by the oath to the national flag and wreath laying ceremony at the statue of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines.
Gordon, the guest of honor, will also be joined by Engr. Larry Cruz who will be representing Executive Director Ludovico Badoy of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) as well as the employees of the PGB, barangay officials, workers and volunteers, senior citizens, students, teachers, non-government organizations, PNP Bulacan and the media among others.
Alvarado said that Bulakenyos should not forget the sacrifices of our heroes that paved the way to achieve independence.
“Let us not let the sacrifices and invaluable efforts of our ancestors go to waste. Alalahanin po natin tuwina ang mga naging ambag ng ating mga bayani para sa pinaka aasam na kalayaan. At habang ginagawa natin ito, patuloy tayong magkapit-kamay tungo sa pagtahak sa landas ng kaunlaran,” the governor added.
Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed every June 12 as a commemoration of the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. It is in accordance with Proclamation No. 28, s. 1962 or “Declaring June 12 as Philippine Independence Day” signed by former President Diosdado Macapagal. (RONDA Balita Online News)
