PAOMBONG, Bulacan — Giving back.
SM City Marilao has joined hands with the local Catholic parish pastoral council here in providing more than a hundred energy-saving lights to a coastal village here recently.
Gladiz May Latiza, SM City –Marilao public relations officer, said that a contigenmt from the SM City Marilao and the Sta. Cruz Paris Pastoral Council went to the remote coastal island village of Sta. Cruz where residents has limited access to lighting and electricity.
“Because of its geographical location, many household rely on expensive incandescent light and hazardous light alternatives such as candles and kerosene lamps. With the donations of LED light the village will now have energy saving lights,” Latiza said
Latiza also said that the LED light donation is a post-follow up action of the Earth Day celebration in SM City Marilao. As recalled, e-LluminArt is an eco-friendly light art installation that uses innovative approaches focusing on the theme of recycling, reducing energy consumption and sustainability. The light art installation was solar-powered and created with energy-efficient LED lighting as well as recycled materials recovered from Marilao River clean up drive last March 2017.
The energy-efficient LED bulbs donation will likewise help in enhancing the livelihood projects of the community that include production of pickled sea purslane or atsarang dampalit and processed fish products, Latiza added.
According to Sta. Cruz Parish Pastoral Council Co-chair Linda Bagtas, the lack of sufficient lighting in the community creates significant challenges in the areas of health, education especially in livelihood. With the donation from SM City Marilao, residents will have brighter homes and save money as LED bulbs use at least 75 per cent less energy and last 15 times longer than a traditional incandescent bulb.
“Malaking tulong yung donation kasi makakatipid kami sa kuryente at mas maliwanag yung ilaw kumpara sa normal na ginagamit namin” said Sta. Cruz Parish Pastoral Council Co-chair Linda Bagtas.
Commission on Action Coordinator Joseph Batac. also added that “because the community uses solar energy solutions in their livelihood projects, the donation of SM City Marilao will definitely help in reducing energy consumption and operational costs”
Aside from lighting homes, village officials of the Sta. Cruz community also plans to give LED lights to help fishermen increase their catch while lessening the risk of accidents.
The LED light donation was made possible in partnership with the Diocese of Malolos- Commission on Social Action.
