BUTUAN City — Another Lumad leader who attended the Indigenous People (IP) Leaders Summit in Davao City last week was shot dead at Sitio Palo 10, Brgy Camp Edward, Alegria, Surigao del Norte about 2:30 pm Friday.
Sources identified the victim as Dakula Guillermo Tiambong, also as Datu Tiambong, 58 years old, a farmer and currently holds the position as the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of the Mamanwa Tribe in Alegria.
Police and military investigation showed that armed men believed to be CPP-NPA terrorists shot dead Datu Tiambong in front of his family while attending his farm at the mountains of Brgy Camp Edward.
Police homicide investigators are working on the theory that hitmen of the terrorist CPP-NPA carried out the murder to punish the victim for attending the IP Leaders Summit organized by the Eastern Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (EMC-AFP) from January 30 to February 1 where President Duterte spoke at the closing ceremony.
The Alegria Municipal Police Station is yet to identify the actual killers, however.
One of the resolutions approved by the summit participants and presented to President Duterte denounced the CPP-NPA for violating the rights and inflicting harm on the Lumads right within their ancestral domains.
According to few summit participants queried by SPRINT NEWS, Datu Tiambong was the voice of the Mamanwa tribe during the three-day IP Leaders Summit.
Datu Tiambong was the third Lumad leader in eastern Mindanao that was assassinated by the CPP-NPA this year.
He was also the third IP Leaders Summit participant killed by communist terrorists.
According to the victim’s daughter, Girlie, his father received death threats from the CPP-NPA because of his active advocacy on peace and development.
“Walay sala ang akong amahan nganong Ila man kining gipatay? Giyatakan sa mga NPA ang katungod namong mga tribu nga magpuyong malinawon,” (My father committed no sin and why did they kill him. The NPA violated the rights of the tribal people who lived peacefully.) Girlie said in a local dialect.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Dakula Guillermo Tiambong whose daughter is an active youth leader,” said Lieutenant Colonel Allen Raymund Tomas, commanding officer of 30IB, PA-based in nearby Placer town.
For his part, Brig. Gen. Franco Nemesio M Gacal AFP, 402nd Infantry Brigade commander, said: “We condemn the terrorist CPP-NPA for the unlawful act of murder to helpless IPs. This is again a clear violation of the Human Rights. With their crime committed, the full force of the law will be utilized to bring justice to the victim.”
Early morning last February 4, heavily armed CPP-NPA terrorists shot dead Datu Banadyaw Mampaundag of the Ata-Manobo tribe and his son-Purok President Jonard Mampaundag right in front of their families at Sitio Igang, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.
Both father and son had just returned home from the IP Leaders Summit which, according to some sources, was infiltrated by Lumads supportive or active with the CPP-NPA in their respective areas.
The alleged infiltrators reportedly took photos of the participants during the event.
On January 29, CPP-NPA terrorists abducted, tortured and beheaded Mar Acevedo Bocales, a Manobo former rebel-turned-CAA personnel, at Sitio Hagimitan, Bolhoon, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. (SPRINT NEWS)
