BULACAN — Public Works and Highways Region 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino urged all his District Engineers to rally their employees to combat corruption in the agency and fulfill their mandate as public servants free from corruption.
This is the essence of his message delivered via a video conferencing platform prior to the start of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Anti-Corruption Manifesto signing on Monday (April 12).
“Secretary Mark Villar and the DPWH Management are keen in making our agency corruption-free. We are aware that allegations of corruption have been rampant and even President Duterte has expressed his displeasure due to the numerous complaints received by Malacanang and the PACC,” RD Tolentino said.
Tolentino clarified that since 2020, the DPWH has been fighting corrupt practices in the agency that resulted in the creation of the DPWH-Task Force Against Graft and Corruption (TAG) headed by Assistant Secretary Mel John I. Verzosa.
“In January this year, Secretary Villar announced on national television that at least 14 personnel of the Department were relieved from service due to alleged involvement in corruption. It is an acknowledgment that there are indeed unscrupulous people within the organization, but it also demonstrates the determination of the DPWH management to make the agency graft- and corruption-free,” Tolentino furthered.
The Anti-Corruption Manifesto Signing was led by Secretary Mark Villar and PACC Chairman Greco Belgica.
“Together with the 14 District Engineering Offices in Region III, we welcome this move. We recited and signed our Pledge of Cooperation and Oath of Honesty in solidarity with the initiative of PACC and fully supported by President Duterte, and I expect our total manpower to do their part in our collective fight against any irregularities,” Director Tolentino enthused.
